First Review...OK...Here we go.
The Demonizer.
A charcoal grey heavy cast aluminum houses the unit and the solid quiet on off switches transfer NO noise into your
sound path. Both Electro Harmonix 12AX7 tubes are housed on each, vent cooled side, covered by an
indestructible lexan that allows the tube to naturally glow through. The left foot switch button will also illuminate that
area to a green color letting you know you are in bypass mode, orange in active mode. The right side foot switch
button sends the unit into a red zone or "nuclear" mode with a 20db boost, more on this later. Highly visible on a
dark stage you will know where you stand with this unit at all times. There is a center lighted area called the Magic
Eye that we'll call the nucleus that actually pulsates and follows your playing beat and style. Keep in mind this is
more than a pedal, this will be your main sound if you so choose, and when you do there's no turning back,
everything will seem anemic after hearing this.
If you do it right this pedal in conjunction with the clean channel on your amp, will give you the ability to have
essentially three channels to work with, when you kick it into nuclear mode, that 20db boost breathes new life into
the mix cutting right through the situation for and aggressive lead sound. With pre and post gain controls you can
actually adjust your tone delivered to the preamp and after the preamp gain stages. Control is here too, from a
-6db cut to a 14db boost the other way. The Post gain control is a scoop frequensator from 500hz - 2.2 khz range.
There is also an Opto Comp control on board that pretty much sets the dynamics of your signal to the tube staging.
Set low, you've got maximum sensitivity to string touch, set high it sends a hotter signal to the tubes for a more
smooth leveled out sound. The secret to this whole pedal is to not do what the idea of a distortion pedal is. To clear
that up a little, the overall gain will be determined by correct mixing of drive, tone control and opto comp controls.
And when it's time to solo, kick it into nuclear and stand back, that 20db of boost adds so much growl to your
sound you'd think you just took off. Don't let this thing fool you, this could quite possibly be your new sound. Set
properly, a clean sound from your amp and in bypass mode on the pedal, to engage, then to nuclear model
essentially gives you a three channel optioned out amp. And when I say this tone is killer, you will not believe your
ears. There is so much range available with what they give you, this could quite possibly be the most versatile
weapon in your arsenal.
