It attaches to the neck by unhooking one end and placing it around the neck and fingerboard and then re-attaching the end part back on. This allows the capo to be rolled along the neck, with your thumb to change positions while playing. When you don't need it, just roll it back over the nut away from the fingerboard. Amazing product
